Save the Roman Sardinia: a realistic picture of the state of things.


Not long ago I happened to read on the Internet a "picture" just and merciless, the current status of the archaeological heritage of Roman civilization in Sardinia.

The Archaeological Museum è la croce e la delizia degli appassionati di archeologia , poichè raccoglie i pezzi più importanti ritrovati non solo in città, di età punica e romana.

A parte la gentilezza del personale , caratteristica veramente commovente riscontrabile in tutte le persone, sia in città sia nei luoghi di mare, le strutture - tutte rigorosamente con evidenziazioni stringatissime solo in italiano - necessitano di una ricollocazione che ne valorizzi l'importanza.
Per restare all'età romana, il Museo conserva tre diplomata di auxilia e di classiarii dell'età di Nerva e di Adriano, nascosti in teche di vetro assieme ad altri oggetti e per niente leggibili (le dimensioni sono di 12 x 10 circa cm.).
Manca un evidenziatore che riporti il testo, manca anche un'indicazione specifica dei diplomi, oggetto di studi da parte di Le Bohec, giusto per citarne uno.

Le più importanti iscrizioni rinvenute sono appoggiate tutte assieme, senza precisazioni circa l'età o il testo; alcune relative a militari, oggetto anch'esse di studi specifici, giacciono antistanti l'ingresso per terra, anche di lato, tanto che all'inizio pensavo fossero dei calchi messi apposta !

Si tratta di stele funerarie importanti per lo studio dell'esercito in Sardegna, poichè da esse si ricavano alcuni dei nomi dei reparti di auxilia operanti in loco tra il I e il III sec. d. C. : uno ad esempio consente di risalire ad una Cohors Aquitanorum mai altrove menzionata.
Di questo testo della fine del I sec. d. C. stupisce la semplicità del latino adoperato per ricordare Rufus Valentinus, Fabusi f(ilius), morto a 30 anni dopo 11 di stipendia, ricordato dal fratello Spedius (foto 3).

Un'altra iscrizione dedicatoria, mutila, ricorda un tale Caecilius Metellus, M(arci) f(ilius), proconsul, il quale aveva restaurato ambulationes (siamo in età tiberiana; il proconsole apparteneva ancora alla gloriosa famiglia dei Caecilii Metelli).
